New Work - Lexicon Trees

 Prints available in my shop

This is a print of one of the paintings in the Willamette Falls Exhibit titled "Lexicon Tree". The original painting was created on a canvas of dictionary squares from a yellowed vintage dictionary.

When creating the original piece, I used a thick coating of an acrylic medium to collage the squares onto the canvas, which gives the look of a dreamy bees wax layer covering the background text. The cool thing is you can paint a tree right over this layer giving a unique look to the piece.

I had so much fun working on the first one that I just couldn't stop until there were three pieces.  All similar but different because each tree is handpainted, plus the dictionary pages are all one of a kind vintage.

Here you can see 2 of the 3 finished paintings in this shot. In the forground, I'm wrapping and getting ready to ship a small bird painting.

When old pages are used in making art it gives interesting texture and pattern for the eye to see and appreciate. I'm so happy with way these turned out! Give it a try!
